Hire/Rental instruments
Stringers of London offers a hire programme for student level cellos, violins and violas. We are happy to size you here, in store, to make sure you purchase the correct instrument. It always best to call ahead to check if we have availability for the instrument size you require. Our rental instruments come with a case and a bow but do not include a shoulder rest or rosin. Insurance cover is included in your monthly hire fees. The only requirement to rent an instrument from us is a British bank account. Please be aware that we do not rent 4/4 (full size) cellos or violins.
Violin: £16 per month
Viola: £18 per month
Cello: £32 per month
Part Exchange
Stringers' Part Exchange Programme gives customers the opportunity to exchange (excl. VAT) any instrument which was originally purchased from us for an instrument of same or higher value.*
Stringers will make deductions when deemed necessary for any work required to restore the instrument to good, re-saleable condition (e.g. replacement strings, bow rehair and/or retouching of varnish). Part-exchange is not guaranteed if an instrument has sustained major damage.
*Stringers Standard level instruments are not included on the part exchange programme.
Stringers offers valuations on violins, violas, cellos and bows for the purpose of insurance. A written valuation on letter headed paper will cost £60 or 1% the value of the instrument/bow plus VAT, which ever is higher. There can also be costs associated with getting second opinions from external experts which would be passed on, however, these aren’t often needed and we would always let you know if this was necessasry before hand. If you are travelling through customs you may need documentation to prove that your instrument or bow does not have any restricted CITES materials used within it’s construction. We can provide a Confirmation of Materials Document but it does require that you leave the instrument/bow with us for a short period of time.
Zoom Appointments
Stringers of London is pleased to offer zoom appointments for those who will find it difficult to physically come to our shop. During the turbulent year that was 2020, Stringers of London began to see customers via Zoom and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Due to this feedback, we have decided to keep this option available to any customer who would prefer to have their appointment remotely. Please contact us to arrange an online appointment.
