The height of a bridge is one of the key factors in how comfortable an instrument is to play. Our student bridges are left a fraction higher than that of a professional to avoid buzzing on the fingerboard but maintain a comfortable playing height.
The curvature of the bridge can have a dramatic affect on the playability of any instrument. Our student instruments have a slightly steeper curve than our professional level bridges to make it easier for beginners to pick out each individual string.
The thickness of a bridge has an effect on the sound and the longevity of a bridge. The thicker the bridge, the less likely it is to warp. The thinner the bridge, the better the tonality. Our student bridges are sized slightly thicker than average to help the instruments last, while still giving a good standard of tone.
The fit of a bridge describes how flush the feet of the bridge are to the body of the instrument. A poorly fitted bridge can lower sound quality and lead to the bridge toppling over while tuning. All our bridges are fitted with the utmost precision.
The quality of wood chosen for our bridges differs on the level of instrument that the bridge is to be fitted to. Our student level bridges are the best sound for value bridges that we have found when choosing our materials.
Each bridge is a work of art in and of itself. Every restorer or luthier will put their own style on the bridges they carve. You can locate these differences in style in the wings and heart of the bridge.
